…I give myself permission to write 3000 words instead of 5000, or edit half a chapter instead of two.
…I do my laundry on Saturday and I love/hate laundry. I love clean clothes, but hate hauling them around. Yes, I would have been worthless at a creek with a rock.
…I change the sheets on Saturday and I love clean sheets. I’ve been giving some thought to changing them on Wednesdays, too, but I haven’t made that switch yet. Does anyone change their sheets every day? One of my favorite childhood memories is going to bed after a hot bath, in clean jammies on clean sheets.
…I take a bubble bath on Saturday nights. A long, hot soak with my Kindle in one hand and my cup of tea in the other. Yes, it is hedonistic and indolent, but you just gotta do it at least once a week.
…I kinda/sorta clean house on Saturdays and I like a clean house. I do my bathroom, but my tub is ridiculously easy. It’s so big I just walk into it and start cleaning. No bending required. I vacuum and shake out Flash’s dog beds. I try to dust during the week, and I make a game of it with my Swiffer, so I don’t have to dust on Saturdays. I scrub all the floors and I’m done.
Saturday nights are TV nights, and I catch up on all the shows I haven’t seen all week. I try, very hard, not to work, simply because I need to decompress.
Now, here’s where I get kind of weird. I move my Saturdays. The other day, I had Saturday on Friday and Saturday meant I had a free day. Sometimes, I’ll even have a Saturday on Wednesday.
How about you? How do you feel about Saturdays?
As I am not a talented author like you, I essentially do not have a J-O-B! This is OK with me. I wash my sheets on Saturday too. As much as I love clean sheets, washing them every day would be exhausting. In the last couple of years, we have had two ladies come in every two weeks and clean for us. One of them used to be a hairdresser and so she gives me a haircut when I need it AND I don’t end up looking like a woodpecker!
*stop picking on me, Connie!* Today, we are meeting our “adopted” daughter and grandchildren at the park for a picnic. Grandma Connie has been craving lemon cupcakes with lemon buttercream frosting. SOMEONE started this craving!
So, I made cupcakes yesterday to take with us. One of these would go well very with your bubble bath tonight!
Happy Saturday!!
Connie
I’m allergic to oodles of things. I get this blasted rash from cotton sheets, for example. I experimented with bamboo, then 1500 count cotton, and same problem. Finally, I treated myself to silk sheets.
I LOVE those sheets.
They are the best things I’ve ever bought myself. I just love them, and they stay fresh looking all week.
Oh, John came over earlier and didn’t comment on the hair. When I asked him what he thought, he looked down at the floor and said, “It looks fine, Mom.”
LOL.
Translation: WTH have you done to yourself?
Well, right now I haven’t left Friday. I have not slept at all, I didn’t even go to bed. SO….I have been exploring medieval abbeys and priories. I have learned quite a bit tonight and feel good. I also pinned them on Pinterest. That way I can always go back and revisit the ones that drew me. Yes, my floors need done, and dusting needs to be completed but I have all day, right?
Karen, I’m trying to picture you at the creek slapping clothes on rocks, heheee. I also love clean sheets, and about changing them daily…..are you serious? :/ Once a week here. I will even be so bold as to admit to not making my bed everyday. Sometimes I spend half a day there lounging with my babies when the mood strikes. I know, I’m awful. As for TV, I watch the few shows I like On Demand. When Game Of Thrones starts it’s new season, I will be watching those regularly.
I hope you and Flash have a peaceful day today
I HATE when that happens! And it happens pretty often to me.
Oh, I read a report a few years back that said you shouldn’t make your bed every day. Doing so encourages dust mite growth. You should air out your bed.
That’s what I tell myself when I don’t make mine.
Is Game of Thrones about the jousting?
It is a movie HBO has made into a series from a book The Game Of Thrones by George R. R. Martin. There are seven kingdoms and a wall. The wall has Knight Watchers who once given their oath, live there for the rest of their life celibate, protecting the kingdoms. Medieval stuff I love
. Last season left me with my mouth hung to the floor and tears in my eyes. Cannot wait for this season to start in April, I believe. I highly suggest watching the first season (I’m sure you can find it somewhere online or it’s on On Demand if you have that and are a subscriber to HBO. Without watching the first season, the second would have you wondering about so many things.

Well, color me ignorant. I’ve heard of George R.R. Martin but never read anything of his. I did read that fans were incensed that it took so long for him to finish the last book. I’ll have to check it out.
Thank you for educating me.
I didn’t even know about him before HBO did the series. I haven’t read the books but have thought about doing so. I have patience with book series being published. I learned it by reading Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. They take forever to come out. I don’t complain or question, I just wait because they are that good.
It’s funny you mentioned sheets. I love clean sheets and told my husband if I ever win the lottery Im going to hire someone to change my sheets every day.lol When I was growing up in Australia my mom would hang the sheets outside to dry. They would smell fabulous. It is a smell you cannot buy in a bottle.
You’re right, Rita – it’s a lovely smell, and I haven’t been able to replicate it, even when I did hang out sheets. And towels? Picture my shock when they looked and felt like cardboard. Back to the dryer for me.
Hey, Leah! Next time you go exploring medieval abbeys and priories, give me a call. I’d love to go with you. What the hey – I didn’t sleep well last night anyway.
As for worrying about everything being pristine, my poor overworked Mom used to say that the dirt will be here when she’s gone and she’s gone and it’s still here. So, snuggle your babies in your unmade bed and watch all the TV you want. In the end, who gives a rip?
Connie Fischer
You have me laughing, Connie
So why medieval abbeys and priorities, Leah?
Rita: My sister in Virginia still dries her sheets and towels on the clothesline. She loves the smell. It is nice but as I live in a condo, I have to settle for my scented fabric softener!

I too love clean sheets! It always feels wonderful to fall into a freshly made bed after a bath. My daughter can not understand why I am insistant that I make my bed everyday (not change the sheets, but just make the bed). I just can’t explain the feeling of getting into a neatly made bed.
I don’t have room to hang everything outside sadly, but in the summer I love to hang out my blankets and pillows. It’s like bringing the outdoors in.
My security system is such a bear that even opening the windows is a pain, Gail. Maybe I should still take my pillows out and air them on the patio.
Did you know your pillows should be washed pretty often? Read that somewhere – if not washed, then tossed in the dryer once a month.
I kept thinking today was friday. I apparently lost a day somewhere. I like Saturadays because I don’t have t oget the kids up for school…unfortunately they still get up….why then canna they no get up on time during the week?
Z
LOL – that was one of my hardest duties: getting the boys up for school. Second hardest: fixing dinner before they starved.
Most common question: what’s for dinner?
Second most common question: why do I have to go to bed now? (See first paragraph.)
However, you KNOW all that stuff, with eight children.
(I’m bowing right now – to you.)
Usually what I hear the most in the morning is my head or tummy hurts.
Usually in the evenings it’s the same as you what’s for dinner and a few skip ahead to what’s for desert?, they don’t care about dinner. After two years of bedtime being at 7pm most of the wee ones are falling down come 7pm, they are ready for bed. Of course so am I.
The other good thing about cooking for 11 is there is always enough incase someone shows up…which here they do.
I bow down to you my friend for being able to transport me away with your words.
Z
I used to do all my housework on a Saturday, but then it always rained – I hang my wash on the clothes line.
So I pushed it back to Friday. No good. Rain. So now if it is fine I clean the house on a Wednesday. It’s an odd system, but it works for me.
I do a full load of laundry everyday, but only do sheets & towels if it’s sunny. I HATE using the dryer.
Oh, Mary, I would NOT be a pioneer woman. I hate NOT using the dryer. Especially for towels. How do get them soft and fluffy? I swear, you could break my towels from the line.
We’re lucky to have someone come in every couple of weeks to do the cleaning – on Thursdays. I do whatever needs to be done in between visits. I use and love flannel sheets and only change them weekly. I would use them year round but it does get a bit too warm for my husband’s liking! And since I’ve retired, Saturdays don’t seem different from any other day.
